Movement
Lesson
for Pumpkin Day
Objective:
To
participate in relay team races while manipulating an
obstacle course.
|
Materials
- one small pumpkin
- one broom
- one orange cone
- marking tape
|
Procedure
- Separate the students into
relay teams.
- The students will race by
pushing the pumpkin with the broomstick.
- Instruct them to go to the
cone that you have placed a reasonable distance from
the starting line marked with the tape. They will go
around the cone and return to the starting mark with
the pumpkin being pushed by the broom.
- The first team to complete
the rotation of the relay is the winning team.
|
Other
Lesson Ideas
- Have a pumpkin walk
similar to a cakewalk.
- Have the students act out
the life of a pumpkinseed. *First small and in the
ground, then the sprout, grow long vines, bloom, and
grow into a large round pumpkin filled with more
seeds. This idea would be excellent for a K class that
does not enjoy intense competition for athletic
lessons. This could be set to music to combine a
movement and music lesson.
