Pumpkin Day

Objective:
The students will create an art work using mosaic technique.

Materials

• Pumpkin seeds died a variety of colors (You must do this ahead of time so the seeds are dry) (Use vinegar, water, and food coloring)
• Heavy art paper
• Glue
• Pencils

Procedure

1. Show a partial mosaic you have start ahead of time. Explain to  the students how a pencil drawing guides the placement of seeds.
2. Using a pencil, the students should make an outline of the pattern or picture they want to create.
3. The students then apply the colored seeds to create their own original mosaic.

Other Lesson Ideas

1. Have each student paint a small pumpkin using tempera paint.
2. Using green string for vines and yellow tissue paper, have the students make a pumpkin vine with blooms.
3. Experiment with color mixing using (primary colors only) tempera or watercolor paint. Try to make green (vine color) and orange (pumpkin) color.
