Objective:
The students will design and create a valentine.

Materials

• A variety of art materials - paper, ribbon, paint, lace, markers, etc.

Procedure

1. Have a discussion on homemade objects and how they can be very special.  Direct the students to think of a special person for whom they would like to make a valentine.  

2. Allow them to be as creative as they wish in designing and creating their valentine. 

Other Lesson Ideas

1. Have the students make posters promoting heart healthy activities.

2. Have the students experiment with the colors red and white to create different shades of pink.

3. Have the students draw pictures of things they like on a heart shaped piece of paper.  This could also be done in collage form by having them use magazine clippings.
