Objective:

flower seed. (This lesson coincides with the Art

book about flowers turning into fruits or vegetables,
such as One Bean by Anne F. Rockwell, It's
Pumpkin Time by Zoe Hall, or The Apple Pie Tree
by Zoe Hall.

Paper
-
Writing
Utensils
-
Seeds
of any type (one per student)
|
Procedure
-
Read
the chosen book and discuss
with the students how many flowering plants bear
fruits and vegetables.
-
Pass
out the seeds and tell the students they are going to
be able to write about their own magic seed.
Their magic seed will begin growing as any other plant
and eventually flower. However, the flower on
their plant will turn into anything they
wish.
-
Pass
out the paper and have the students write about their
magic seed.
-
Younger
students may complete simple sentences such as
"My seed will grow into a
________________." Older students may write
longer stories explaining exactly how their plant will
grow, flower, and produce the desired object.
-
Proceed
to the Art Lesson.

Other

Have
a phonics lesson on the fl blend or the ow sound.
-
Write
flower poetry.
-
A

Heller's book, A Cache of Jewels, have a lesson
on collective nouns.
