Art Lesson
for Turkey Day
Objective:
The students will create turkeys.
|
Materials
-
A wide variety of art materials - construction paper,
craft feathers, paint, crayons, markers, etc.
-
A
Plump and Perky Turkey by Teresa Bateman, if
available.
|
Procedure
-
If
the book is available, read the story to the
students. (The story centers on a group of
townspeople creating turkeys out of a variety of
materials.)
-
Offer
a wide variety of materials and allow the students to be
as creative as possible in creating a turkey.
-
Younger
students may need some suggestions such as tracing
their hands to create a turkey, painting a turkey by
dipping a feather into paint and using it like a
paintbrush, or gluing feathers in place on a drawn
turkey.
-
When
the turkeys are complete, allow the students time to
share how they created their turkey.
|
Other
Lesson Ideas
-
As
a variation on the above lesson, provide a greater
variety of materials allowing the students to create a
three-dimensional turkey.
-
Have
the students drop small amounts of food coloring onto
coffee filters cut in half. Once these dry, they
can serve as the fan of feathers for a turkey.
Have the students glue the filter onto construction
paper and complete the turkey body with crayons,
markers, or colored pencils.
