Objective:
The students will create shadows using different body movements.

Materials

• A flat top surface outside on a sunny day

• (If it is not a sunny day, use a lamp, flashlights, or an overhead projector and have the students create hand shadows.)

Procedure

1. Instruct the students to use their imaginations and their bodies to create a variety of shadows.  This may be a guided activity if shapes or common objects are called out and the students try to form them in their shadows.

2. If doing this activity indoors with an artificial light source, have the students take turns forming shadows.  The rest of the class may try and discern what their shadow is.

Other Lesson Ideas

1. If it is a sunny day, go outside and play shadow tag.
