Objective:
The students will create ladybugs.

Materials

• Ovals cut from red construction paper

• Scraps of black construction paper

• Black paint

Procedure

1. Discuss the different parts of a ladybug - head, antennae, legs, spots, etc.  Look at some pictures of ladybugs in books or at ladybug web sites.

2. Have the students create ladybugs by starting with the red ovals for the body.  They may then create the antennae, head, legs, etc. from the black paper.

3. To complete the ladybugs, have the students make spots by dipping their fingers in black paint and using fingerprints for spots.

Other Lesson Ideas

1. Have the students create pictures using nothing but red and black paint.
