Chameleon Day

Objective:
The students will use a collage method to create a chameleon.

Materials

• Torn pieces of tissue paper (if not available, use construction paper scraps)
• Glue
• Plain white paper
• Crayons, paint, or colored pencils
• Chameleon Printout (if desired) copied on to white construction paper.

Procedure

1. Demonstrate using torn pieces of tissue paper to fill in a space.
2. Pass out the white paper or the Chameleon Printout.
3. Have the students create their own chameleon by using torn pieces of tissue paper.
4. Have the students use the medium of their choice (paint, crayons, etc.) to create a background for the chameleon.  Discuss how they can camouflage the chameleon by creating a background similar to the chameleon colors they have chosen.

1. See the Social Studies Lesson which has an art component in it.
2. Have the students paint a chameleon of their own and experiment with color mixing.
