Scarecrow Day

As soon as the students arrive at school, proceed with the Art Lesson and create a classroom scarecrow.  This new classmate will serve as a basis for the social studies and math lessons.  These two lessons are combined and should be done in conjunction with one anther.  The social studies portion should be done first.

This little old lady puts her fears to good use!  A great repetitive book, terrific for acting out with hand movement.

This little scarecrow wants to be big enough to work in the fields with his father.  One day he proves he is able to do so.

The Lonely Scarecrow by Tim Preston.
This scarecrow wants to make friends with the animals who fear him.  What a surprise when he is transformed by a falling snow into a jolly snowman.  The animals come to love him whether a snowman or a scarecrow!

Nothing at All by Denys Cazet.
As all the farm animals awake in their noisy ways, the scarecrow says "nothing at all."  However, the scene changes when a mouse crawls in the pants of the quiet scarecrow.
